Dorothy Ermagard Lockwood, age 96, passed away peacefully with her sons at her side on January 30, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church on Thursday, February 4, 2021. Friends and family may gather at St. Francis for a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held in June.
Dorothy was born in Pine Center on June 29, 1924 to Frank and Lena (Marohn) Smude. She married Arden Lockwood on November 22, 1941 and was a loving, loyal war bride following him to Reese Army Air Corps base in Texas and then to Savannah, Georgia, where Arden was a bombing instructor. After the war, the family moved back to Brainerd. Over the years, Dorothy worked at Land O’ Lakes Café, National T, Super Value grocery stores and finally, as a dining room supervisor at Brainerd State Hospital. Her home and family were the center of her life.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arden; brother, Ralph; half-brother, Tom Smude; and step-sister, Shirley Zebroski. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Larry (Jane) Lockwood and Dale Lockwood; grandchildren, Laura (Jason) Melin; David (Heidi) Lockwood; great grandsons, Zachary and Isaac Lockwood, Alexender and Dominick Melin; sisters, Maxine Debler, Joanne Martin; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Smude.
