Douglas Ilo Hagenson, age 67, of Brainerd, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 30, 2021, at his home.
Doug was born in Staples on December 15, 1953, to Donna and Norman Hagenson. He was the third of eight sons. He attended and graduated from Staples High School and continued his education at Wadena Area Vocational Technical Institute, earning his 1st Class A License in electronic communications. He was baptized, confirmed, and married in the Lutheran Faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples. Doug was united in marriage to Margaret (Meg) Diane Lentsch of Crookston on September 1, 1979. The couple made their home in Brainerd for 35 years.
Doug worked for Motorola and Bishops Hospital in Omaha, NE, Soo Line Railroad, and with the Minnesota DOT for 32 years, and finally retired in 2017. Doug touched so many lives with his infectious laugh and humor. Though he never had any children of his own, he was the favorite uncle of over 80 nieces and nephews. He was very gifted with his abilities and hobby of landscaping, remodeling, and oil painting.
Doug is lovingly remembered by his wife, Meg; seven brothers, Duane, of Staples, Dennis (Brenda), of Nisswa, Dale (Barb), of Alexandria, Dan (Sharon), of Staples, Dave (Jody), of Staples, Darren (Christine) of St. Louis Park, and Donald of Staples; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Doug was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and his parents, Norman and Donna Hagenson.

A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Nelson – Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Family and friends are invited to dress casually and continue the celebration after the service with picnic food and fellowship until 3:00 p.m.
