Eileen Lucille Grimes, 89, of Brainerd, passed away May 8, 2021, at Good Samaritan Village – Woodland. A Celebration of Eileen’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 27, 2021, at Nelson – Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior and to stay for a lunch to follow. Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. This will also be a celebration for her son, John who passed just a few months earlier than Eileen.
Eileen was born March 22, 1932, in Brainerd, the daughter of Ralph and Irene (Erickson) Raines. After high school, Eileen got married and was blessed with three children. She enjoyed her life as a homemaker until her children were in their teens. She worked a few odd jobs before she got remarried and helped her new husband, Tom Grimes with his accounting business. When Eilieen’s father died in WWII, she was just twelve, and led to a lifelong passion to help veterans and become active in the VFW and American Legion Ladies Auxiliaries. Her love of children extended to her grandchildren and all the pediatric patients to she volunteered care for at the hospital. She also liked teaching vocation bible school. Eileen was an avid bowler who never turned down a chance to get together with friends and play. She was on leagues and taught junior bowling as well.
She will be missed by her daughter, Patricia (Jack) Gard; son, Dennis Benjamin; grandchildren, Mindy (Frank) DeAscentis and Jason (Amanda) Gard; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Katherine, William, Joseph, Adrian, Caleb, and Dylan; and sisters, Frannie and Carol
She was preceded in death by her son, John; husband, Tom; and grandson, Wayne.
