Elsa Hough Obituary

Elsa Marie Hough, age 75, of Garrison, MN, passed away with family by her side on Friday, October 22, 2021, at the St. Cloud Hospital. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Nelson – Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.

Elsa was born October 11, 1946, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Harvey and Elvira “Binky” (Hanson) Samson. After graduating from high school, she continued her education at the Minneapolis School of Business. A few classes into her shorthand education, Elsa found a better way to spend her time – she fell in love and married Kari Joe Hough in 1967. The couple were blessed with three daughters.

Elsa enjoyed operating Garrison Sports with her husband as well as being the office manager at Dr. Kehr’s Dental practice. Elsa served as City Clerk for Garrison for many years. She was known for amazing Christmas caramels, diamond dotz painting, and playing a mean game of Sorry or Cribbage with her grandkids. She made the best “Punkin Bars” ever! Elsa was an avid reader and her family’s biggest fan.

She will be missed by her daughters, Michelle (Greg) Erickson, Stacy Christensen, and Bette Jo Hough and grandchildren, Brett Tibbetts, Veronica, Brooklyn and Kennedy Christensen, sister-in-law Midge Shaw, Linda (Rod) Beck, Phil (Deby) Samson, Al Samson, Rick Samson, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kari, brother Tommy, and sister-in-law Katie.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Stadum, Dr. Devalla and his nurse Roxanne of Essentia Health Brainerd Clinic, and CentraCare Hospital St. Cloud for the great care they provided our mom. Thanks also go out to Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, specifically Rhonda, for her camaraderie and advice in planning this gathering.
