Ethel Lou Speaker passed away on July 15th, 2021 at the age of 91. She was a resident of Brookside Assisted Living in Pine River MN.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Timberwood Church in Nisswa. Family and friends are welcome to gather for one hour prior to the service.
She was born on February 16th, 1930 and was raised in Michigan. Ethel resided in Minneapolis and Nisswa for many years with her husband, Guy Speaker II.
Ethel’s favorite place to be was her home on Gull Lake in Nisswa, where she spent many years enjoying life with her husband and friends and raising her 5 children and 7 grandchildren.
Ethel was feisty and outspoken and loved any social event. She was a friend of many and lit up a room with her smile and laughter. Among many hobbies, Ethel loved to travel and was an avid quilter, gardener, golfer, a skilled bridge partner and opponent and a Viking’s fan forever. She was famous for her enthusiastic farewell, coined the “Gull Lake wave”.
She is survived by her five children, Guy ‘Skip’ Speaker III, Stacey Speaker, Leslie Speaker, Sheldon Speaker and Amy (Marty) Nelson; grandchildren, Maggie and Sean Gleeson, Ben Olson, Russell Hill, Ray, Jake and Katie Nelson; great-great grandchildren, Zoe and Grace Hill; and many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Guy Speaker II.
