George Sargent Obituary

George Edward Sargent, 79, of Stacy MN., originally of Brainerd MN., passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022, at M Health Fairview in Minneapolis.

A Celebration of George’s (a.k.a. Ed’s) Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2022, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brainerd.  Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services and to stay for luncheon to follow.

George was born December 27, 1942, in Brainerd, the son of John Burrell and Rose Mary (LeDoux) Sargent.  After graduating from Brainerd High School, George continued his education at Brainerd Junior College (CLC) and earned an associates degree in accounting. He worked for many years at BN Railroad starting as the Brainerd Tie Treating Plant Clerk before moving to Somers, MT in 1977, to manage the Somers Tie Treating Plant. Later he returned to MN to work at the BN Help Desk then the Data Storage Department.  He relocated to Fort Worth, TX with BNSF where he retired. Later he returned to MN, to work for Deluxe Check in their Data Storage Department.

George married Sharon Wood and the couple was blessed with three children.  In retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Arizona and coming home to Minnesota when the weather allowed. His greatest joys were family, friends, golfing, fishing, hunting, storytelling, and humor.  He was very spiritual and truly lived by the Golden Rule.

He is survived by his children, Brent (Nancy) Sargent, Brian (Jennifer) Sargent, and Debra (Brian) Wilson; grandchildren, Cody, Shannen, John, Jennifer, Karlee, Mataya, and Jolson; and great-grandchildren, Philip Edward, Sharon Kay (with two little ones arriving shortly, Walter Ray and Lakelyn Marie).  He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (2009); parents; and siblings, John Patrick, Richard Joseph, David Ernest and Rose Mary Sargent.

All donations will be directed to Autism Speaks and Achieve Services Inc, for Special Need Adults.
