Jesse Baker Obituary

Jesse K. Baker, 26, of Brainerd, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 27, 2020.

Jesse was born June 30, 1993 in Thief River Falls, Mn to Kristopher Baker and Natalie Gjovik.  He married the love of his life, Devyn Mudgett on August 18, 2018.

There will be a visitation on Sunday afternoon from 2-5 p.m. at Nelson – Doran Funeral Home.   Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jesse’s life on Monday, May 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at The Journey North in Baxter.  Lawn chairs are encouraged as music, memories, and words of comfort will be shared in the parking lot in honor of Jesse’s life.  Interment will take place at Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager.  Please keep in mind the CDC recommendations for social distancing.

Jesse graduated from Thief River Falls High School in 2011.  As a child, Jesse enjoyed visiting his grandparents house, jumping on the trampoline or playing pool and pinball in their basement.  During these visits he would play hide and seek in their furniture store and make houses and cars out of the large boxes. Jesse enjoyed many days hunting and fishing at the dam.

Jesse’s love for the Lord was a driving force in his life. This love was reignited while at Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge. While at Teen Challenge, Jesse rediscovered his passion for life. He was a proud April 2016 graduate and was always a huge advocate/supporter of the program. After Teen Challenge, Jesse felt it on his heart to speak about his addiction in an effort to reach others who may be struggling. He spoke to the students about his addiction at Thief River Falls High School, Brainerd High School, Pillager High School, and numerous youth groups. Jesse and Devyn also coordinated a fundraiser to help raise money for MNTC raising over $4,000.

Jesse enjoyed his job as a roller operator for Anderson Brothers Construction Residential Division for the past 4 years.  He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife on sunny days to get pizza and ice cream.  Jesse excelled at body building and competed in the NPC Upper Midwest body building competition where he placed 3rd in his class (but really placed 1st when he proposed to his then girlfriend Devyn and she said “YES!”) #MakeHerABaker.  One month later he competed in the NPC Gopher State Classic and placed 1st in his class. It was something he worked very hard for and was very proud of.  Jesse and Devyn attended The Journey North church and Jesse was the bass player on the worship team on occasion. He also was a huge fan of the Minnesota Wild. You could always catch him in his Minnesota Wild apparel.

Jesse will forever be loved and deeply missed by his wife, Devyn; parents, Kris Baker and Natalie LaCoursiere; siblings, Craig (Kayla Christensen) Nichols, Kylie LaCoursiere, Lexy Baker; grandparents, Steven & Marion Baker, Mary Beich; parents-in-law, Scott & Dawn Mudgett; brother-in-law, Dexter (Casey) Mudgett; nieces, Jazlynn Mae Stennes, Brynlee Mudgett, Brekkyn Mudgett; and many other family and friends.

Jesse is preceded in death by his great grandparents, John and June Baker, Joseph and Florence Wiener and Gerald Ulferts.
