John Mertens Obituary

John F. Mertens, age 56, of Brainerd passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 18, 2024 in Brainerd.  A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 1-4PM at Oak Lawn Town Hall.  A prayer service will be held at 2PM with Pastor Jim Rogers officiating.  A luncheon and refreshments will be served.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd.

John was born April 15, 1967 in Brainerd; the son of Frederick and Edna (Maske) Mertens. As a young child he was stubborn, but very protective of his sister. John worked as a supervisor for Crow Wing Recycling and had a profound work ethic. He was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Aubriana and Izabelle; who he would do anything for. John enjoyed motorcycles and anything with wheels and a motor. He was a jokester, compassionate, caring, loving, kind, and would do anything for anyone. John’s family always came first and foremost. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

John is survived by his daughters, Aubriana and Izabelle; sisters, Colleen (Cal) Boeder, Cherri (Bob) Hannahs, Eileen Borg, Heidi Virnig; very special niece and nephew, Missy and Jeremy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
