Karen Cheney Obituary

Karen Cheney, 71, resident of Baxter, died on October 23rd, 2023, in Brainerd, MN. Karen was born February 8th, 1952 to Harold Koop and Jane (Frederick) Koop. She received an associates degree from Central Lakes College and went on to work at the State Hospital, she then retired from the DNR. Karen was married to Roy Cheney in 1977.

Karen was always a loving, creative and selfless person who was willing to give her talents and time to everyone she met. She enjoyed many hobbies including travel, camping, square dancing, 4-wheeling, hiking, and girls trips with “The Flock”. Karen loved making and sharing a variety of art forms including small, detailed nature art and multimedia abstract art. She was part of many art clubs in the community: Crosslake Art Club, Brainerd Area Art Guild and Crossing Art Artists of MN. Karen and Roy spent many winters in Texas and Arizona.

Karen loved and was so proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments, and she adored her great grand boys.

Karen is preceded in death by husband Roy, her parents, and son Duane. She is survived by her brother Gary (SueEllen) Koop, daughter Deb (Rick) Cole, grandson Anthony (Nicole) Cole, granddaughter Savannah (Cayle) Winkler, her great-grandson’s Harrison, Lincoln, and McKinley Cole, many nieces, and nephews.

Her funeral will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on November 3rd. Visitation will be at 10:00 am with service beginning at 11:00 am followed by lunch at the church. Interment will be held at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery with family.
