Kari Hough Obituary

Kari Joe Hough, age 74, of Garrison, MN passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021 with family by his side.  A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 – 8 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2021 at Nelson – Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd.  Interment with Military Honors will take place at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.

Kari was born in Mesa, Arizona on November 5, 1946 to Joe and Bette Hough.  He married Elsa Samson on July 19,1967.  Kari served in the United States Navy from 1967-1971.  In 1971 Kari and Elsa moved to Garrison, MN.  In 1975, along with Bob and Jane Weston, they purchased Garrison Sports Bait and Tackle, which they ran for 44 ½ years.  Kari was active in the community serving on the Garrison Fire Department for 32 years, 16 of which he served as Fire Chief.  Kari’s greatest passion in life was hunting whitetail deer and waterfowl. 

Kari is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elsa.  Daughters Michelle (Greg) Erickson, Stacy Christensen, and Bette Hough.  Grandchildren Brett Tibbetts and Veronica, Brooklyn, and Kennedy Christensen.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jeff.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the professionals at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Cancer Center, Knute Nelson Hospice and Nelson-Doran Funeral Home for their great care.
