Kent Daniel Sorvik

Kent Daniel Sorvik was born January 13, 1951 in Fargo, ND. He grew up in Moorhead with his siblings Barb, Doug, and Marcia where they split time between their home in the city and the beloved cabin on Lake Ida. Kent went to college at NDSU where he was a drum major in the marching band, married Mary Patricia Boyle in 1973, and moved to Minnesota shortly thereafter. He lived in Minneapolis for a short time, where he started his electrical engineering career at Univac and then Honeywell. He then moved to Onamia where he raised four amazing children. He worked at Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Mille Lacs County Jail, Onamia Computer Consulting, and also served as a fire warden along with volunteering with the Onamia Ambulance for 28 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing bridge, community theater and choir, spending $2 bills, leaving his children in the tractor bucket, spending time at Doyle’s Pizza Plus, and solving sudoku puzzles. 

Kent passed away peacefully on March 20, 2020 at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Brainerd, MN, with his children and his cat, Wayne, by his side.

He is survived by his children, Carin Sorvik of West Palm Beach, FL, Molly (Matt) Meinke of Savage, MN, Dan (Rob) Sorvik of Sydney, Australia, Greta Sorvik of Brainerd MN; two grandchildren, Alexa and Isabelle; cousin, Mary (Jim) Willyard of Anoka; siblings, Doug (Sandi) and Marcia (Andrew) Olerud; and many nieces and nephews.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and LaDonna Sorvik and sister Barbara. 

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
