Marilyn Young, 88, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. She was born to Franz and Anna Beutler on October 27, 1932 in Lacrosse, WI. Her family moved to Downers Grove, IL where Marilyn graduated high school in 1952.
After graduation, Marilyn worked for Commonwealth Edison in Chicago in the typing pool. She loved taking the train into the city each day. Marilyn became a housewife when she married the love of her life, Arthur N Young Jr. on December 19, 1954. Together the couple brought 8 children into the world. Spending time with family was her greatest joy.
Sadly, Arthur passed away from cancer in 1974. Marilyn’s grief was unbearable, but she pulled herself together for her family. She then met Phil Cosgrove. The new couple moved the family to Brainerd in the fall of 1977. Phil had family in the Brainerd area and the couple fell in love with the beauty of the region.
In Brainerd, Marilyn took a job as a home health aide. She excelled in this position and loved hearing Brainerd history stories from her clients. She enjoyed helping people and spent the remainder of her career in this position.
Marilyn is survived by children Linda Cupples (Mike), Jennifer Barker (Tim), Arthur Young III (Denise), Andrea Paulson (Ralph), Heide Benedict (Mike), Carole Bjorklund (Matt), Tracie Price (Vern Armstrong); 23 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; dear friend Collette Wagner, Ginger Duncan, Paul Cosgrove (Kathi), Rhonda Cosgrove and her beloved cat Stanley.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Franz and Anna Beutler; husband, Arthur Young Jr.; infant daughter, Susan Young; sister, Irene Johnson; partner Phil Cosgrove; son-in-law, Jerome Price and Tom Cosgrove. A special thank you from the family to Knute Nelson Hospice for showing such loving, kind, and compassionate care to us and our mother, never leaving her side during her last hours.
A remembrance picnic is planned for late June.
