Martin "Marty" Yuell Boyd

Martin “Marty” Yuell Boyd, age 89, of Brainerd, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020 at Mills Manor, New York Mills.

Marty was the youngest of four children born to Clarence and Ella (Hutchinson) Boyd on September 16, 1931 in Carmi, IL. Marty served his country in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carol Ann Shanks on December 23, 1961. They would have celebrated 59 years this December 2020. Marty’s career was spent building water towers, including the Brainerd water tower. He was a member of the Chicago Bridge and Iron Boiler Makers Union. Marty was a social butterfly, who had many friends and was always there to lend a hand. He was always quick to share a smile and a joke with others.  He enjoyed having coffee with friends and neighbors while playing cribbage for hours at a time.  He stayed active ice fishing, chopping wood, and bartering while buying and selling vehicles. Marty was always busy working and making sure his family was taken care of.

Marty is survived by four children, Tracey Johnston, Timothy, Steven (Amanda Jacobson) and Lynda (Bill and Sharon Mettler); 11 grandchildren, Kasey (Mike) Cundy, Kylor (Jennifer) Johnston, Jakob Mettler, Lukas (Bobbi Cruikshank) Mettler, Nicklas Mettler, Mikaela (Kyle) Dowdall, Kelsey Boyd, Maks Boyd, Ryker Boyd and Kyla and Dawson Jacobson; three great-grandchildren, Peyton Cundy, Brooks Cundy and Elliott Johnston; sister-in-law, Shirley Shanks; godchildren, Marianne Yager, Jeff and Karen Shanks; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Carol Ann Boyd; his parents, Clarence and Ella; and siblings, Sally Monschau, D.J. and Clarence Boyd.

A private funeral service will be held. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home from 10a.m. to 3p.m. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Brainerd.
