Richard “Dick” George Macko, 84, of Nisswa, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Essentia Health – St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. A private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the American Cancer Society.
Dick was born July 13, 1936, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of George and Rose (Kupenynski) Macko. Dick’s talent for music began early. He performed in ballrooms across Minneapolis and St. Paul in the Dick Macko Band. In 2009, he was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame. And for over 62 years, Dick tuned pianos across the state.
He will be missed by his wife of 63 years, Joanne; sons, Thomas (companion, Tammy Higganbotham) Macko and Mark (Arleen) Macko; grandsons, Brian (Tami LaBree) Uecker, Michael (Micaela Favela) Macko; granddaughter, Sara Uecker; great-grandchildren, Jordan Richard LaBree, Malachi Macko, Nikolai Macko, Julian Deal, Natalia Deal, and Blake Carter; sister, Kathleen Larison; and sisters-in-law, Mary Macko and Rosie Light. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanine Marie Macko; brother, Robert John Macko; and his parents.
