Robert Lee Holbrook

Robert Lee Holbrook, age 85, of Brainerd, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2020 in Sandstone, MN.

Robert was born February 18, 1935 in Brainerd to Orvie William Holbrook and Alice Mae (Rardin) Holbrook. He attended the public schools in Brainerd throughout 8th grade. On November 26, 1955 he married Angela Le Doux, and together they had three children. Robert worked at Burlington Northern, Water and Light in Brainerd and Lovegreen Turbin Services in Blaine where he retired from. He was divorced March 8, 1988 and later married Shirley Bordwell on July 28, 1990. He was a member of the Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison, MN. Robert loved to fish, hunt and travel after his retirement in 1994. He volunteered to help build the church and move the pastor with his truck and trailer. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elk’s and The Eagle’s.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Shirley; children, Bruce (Diana) Holbrook, Lisa (Victor) Mars, and Kelley Holbrook; sister, Sharon Chaney; brothers, William (Toni) Holbrook, Gene (Gaylene) Holbrook, Jack (Sherry) Holbrook; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two step-sons; Richard (Garnette) Bordwell and Danny Bordwell; dear friend, Angela Larson; 3 step granddaughters and 9 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Delores Starkey and Evelyn O’Connor; and one step grandson, Jamie Bordwell.

A special thank you to all the healthcare workers who provided special care and comfort to Robert and the family. Memorials are preferred to Light of the Cross Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. We kindly ask everybody in attendance to please wear their masks and follow social distancing recommendations.
