Tom Phelps

Tom Phelps, age 70, of Brainerd, died on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Methodist Campus.

Tom was born September 26, 1951, in Rochester, MN, to Howard and Sally (Olson) Phelps. He married Sue Maki on July 10, 1976, in Chisholm, MN. Tom graduated from Brainerd High School in 1969.  After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army.  Following his honorable discharge, he pursued his education. Tom was privileged to serve the city of Brainerd for 34 years. Tom held a variety of positions. His final role was serving as the Superintendent of Brainerd Public Utilities.

The things that were most important to Tom were: faith, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sue; children, Scott (Karen) Phelps and Jenny (Neal) Hall; granddaughters, Erin and Lucy; and siblings, Cindy Frederickson, Brad Phelps, and Steve Phelps.

Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a light lunch to follow the service.  A private interment with military honors will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley, at a later date.
