William Imgrund Obituary

 

William E (Bill) Imgrund, age 91, passed away on Friday March 13, 2020 at Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bill was born in Wadena, Mn. on March 25, 1928 to Edward H & Kathyrn (Beaver) Imgrund.

He attended school in Wadena until the family moved to Brainerd, Mn. He loved basketball, tennis & track. He later joined the Navy.  After that he lived in Minneapolis area for a while. He married & started a family. In 1952 he joined the Minnesota State Guard where he was a Sergeant. He worked as a taxi driver, on construction and at Northern Pump in Mpls. 

After moving back to Brainerd he bartended and then worked for BN Railroad over 30 years until retirement.  Bill enjoyed being a member of the Moose Lodge for many years.  In 1982, he was Governor at the Moose Lodge.  He also was a member of the VFW and the American Legion for many years where he enjoyed visiting friends and meeting new people.  He made many lifetime friends.  Bill loved coaching youth baseball for many years and was an avid sports fan. He even coached some relatives. He loved his Vikings and Twins.  He kept up with all the sports and knew all the stats. Then he discovered golf!  He was an avid golfer well into his 80’s.  After he met and married the love of his life, Lois Johnson, they settled in a home on the Pine River Golf Course until her passing in 1993. And we can't forget his love for hunting and fishing!

His greatest joy in life was spending time, visiting and playing cribbage with his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and his nieces, nephews and brother Jerry.  Every once in awhile he might let you win. 

Bill was very witty and came up with jokes for everything.   He was always positive and upbeat.  Someone once said," Dad always finds a rainbow in everything". 

He is survived by son Bob (Sara) Imgrund, Fort Ripley, Mn, son-in-law Jan Hass, Webster, SD, son David Imgrund and friend Herb, Burnsville, Mn, daughter Jane (Bill) Schiltz, Cross Lake, Mn, son Bill Imgrund II, Monticello, Mn, daughter Lori (Dennis) Prawdzik, Lakeville, Mn.   Stepchildren Tim Johnson, Todd Johnson, Tammy Johnson and Teresa Johnson and friend Steve.  20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.  Brother Jerry (Janet) Imgrund, Colorado, many precious  nieces and nephews, and step-son, Shawn Herold.   

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward H and Kathryn (Beaver) Imgrund, wife Lois J Imgrund, daughter Judith A Hass, brother Richard (Dick) Imgrund and sister-in-law Dorothy Imgrund, brother Ray Imgrund and step-son Tom Johnson. 

Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday March 21, 2020 at St. Mathias Catholic Church with visitation 1 hour prior to service. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Brainerd following service. Arrangements have been completed by Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd, Mn.
