Bill was born on December 3, 1944, the only son of Howard and Doris Clauson. He grew up on the family farm in Hadley, MN and graduated in 1962 from Slayton High School. Bill attended the University of Minnesota School of Veterinary Medicine, St. Paul Campus, and started his career at the Slayton Veterinary Clinic. He married Kathy Cahoon Spirra on April 5, 1980. Their relationship started with just a little whisp and grew into a very strong loving bond. The couple enjoyed traveling and playing their morning Cribbage games together. Bill and Kathy made their home in Perham until moving to Wausau, WI and most recently back to Brainerd. Bill had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed their annual fishing trips to Lake of the Woods, reading, cooking from his “Montana Cookbook,” and his delectable carrot cake will be greatly missed.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kathy; sister, Karen Burch of Slayton; stepdaughters, Rhonda Larrabee of Hermantown, MN, Tammie Eno of Largo, FL, Sharon Campbell of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Brittany (Brian) Crosby, Collin Campbell, Meghan (Pat) Greco, Morgan (Dave) Maio; five great grandchildren and one more joining the family in January and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Doris Clauson; sister, Sandy Johnson; brother in-law, Gene Burch; stepson, Bill Spirra; son in-laws, Jerry Larrabee and Russ Campbell; grandson, Ken Austin Jr. and great grandson, Jacob Austin.
Bill will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Bill’s family would like to extend their gratitude to St. Croix Hospice for their wonderful care.
