Mike Doran

Mike Doran

Funeral Director/Owner

For Mike Doran, funeral service has never been just a profession—it's been a way of life.

Born and raised in Brainerd, Mike grew up watching his father, Tom Doran, care for families with compassion, dignity, and respect. In 1960, Tom helped shape the future of funeral service in the Brainerd Lakes Area when he merged the family funeral home with another local provider to form what is known today as Nelson-Doran Funeral Home.

From an early age, Mike found himself drawn to the meaningful work taking place around him. Whether helping with small tasks at the funeral home or simply observing the relationships his father built within the community, he discovered a calling rooted in service and human connection.

After graduating from Brainerd High School, Mike attended the University of Minnesota's College of Mortuary Science, earning his degree in 1986. He returned home committed to continuing the legacy his family had helped establish—serving local families with the same care, professionalism, and compassion that had inspired him growing up.

Today, Mike and his wife, Wendy, make their home in Merrifield and are proud parents of two daughters, Megan and Abby. Their household is shared with several beloved pets who, according to family members, are perhaps a bit more spoiled than they should be.

When he's not at the funeral home, you'll often find Mike enjoying the outdoors, especially during Minnesota winters. A lifelong hockey enthusiast and former player, he now enjoys cheering on the Minnesota Wild with family and friends, proving that while the skates may be retired, the passion for the game remains strong.

Mike and his family are active members of St. Francis Catholic Church, and he continues to serve the community through his involvement with the Noon Rotary Club. Whether supporting local organizations, volunteering his time, or helping a family through one of life's most difficult moments, Mike remains deeply committed to the community that has always been home.

Known for his quick wit and remarkable ability to quote the perfect movie line for almost any occasion, Mike brings a welcome sense of warmth and humor to the funeral home. It's a combination of sincerity, experience, and genuine kindness that has earned the trust of generations of families throughout the Brainerd Lakes Area.

For nearly four decades, Mike has carried forward a family legacy built on service, compassion, and community—helping families tell the stories of the people they love and creating meaningful ways to honor lives well lived.

Rhonda Mareck Harting

Rhonda Mareck Harting

Funeral Director/Owner

For Rhonda Harting, funeral service is about one thing above all else: caring for people.

Although she joined Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in December 2019, Rhonda brings more than two decades of experience, leadership, and compassion to the families she serves. Her journey into funeral service began shortly after graduating from St. Cloud State University in 2001. By 2003, she had entered the profession and quickly discovered the meaningful difference funeral professionals can make during life's most difficult moments.

As her passion for serving families grew, Rhonda enrolled in the Mortuary Science Program at Des Moines Area Community College, further strengthening her knowledge and commitment to providing exceptional care. Over the years, she gained extensive experience helping families navigate loss, including 17 years managing another funeral home before joining the Nelson-Doran team.

Today, Rhonda is proud to help lead a funeral home with deep roots in the Brainerd Lakes Area—a community she knows, loves, and is honored to serve.

Away from the funeral home, Rhonda's greatest joy is her family. She and her husband, Jed, share a busy and laughter-filled household with their children: Rhett, Rhya, Lili, and Miranda. Whether cheering from the sidelines, enjoying Minnesota's outdoors, gathering around the dinner table, or simply spending time together, family remains at the center of everything she does.

Rhonda is passionate about building connections within the community and believes some of life's most meaningful moments happen when people come together to support one another. That belief guides her work every day as she helps families create services that reflect the unique lives, values, and stories of the people they love.

Her favorite quote—"In a world where you can be anything, be kind"—serves as both a personal philosophy and a professional guide. She understands that kindness often matters most when people are experiencing loss, uncertainty, and change.

Families who work with Rhonda quickly discover her ability to balance professionalism with genuine warmth. She is a listener, an advocate, a problem solver, and a steady source of support during difficult times. Whether helping a family plan a traditional funeral, a unique celebration of life, or simply answering questions during a challenging day, she believes every family deserves to be treated with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Rhonda considers it a privilege to walk alongside families during some of life's most difficult moments, helping them find comfort, celebrate meaningful memories, and honor lives well lived. Every story matters, and she is honored to help families tell them.

Support Staff & Service Assistant

Devyn Mudgett Baker wears many hats—and she wears them all with grace, warmth, and heart. At Nelson – Doran Funeral Home, Devyn provides essential support both behind the scenes and during services. Whether she’s helping out in the office, greeting guests with a warm cup of coffee, or gently guiding families during visitations, Devyn’s goal is simple: to be a calming, compassionate presence during moments that matter most.

What makes Devyn's role especially meaningful is the personal journey that led her here. After experiencing the sudden loss of her husband, Devyn was deeply touched by the support she received from her community. That experience shaped her, and now she chooses to spend her free time “paying it forward”—offering the same care, empathy, and steady presence to others who are walking through grief.
